The ADC moisture sensor utilizes state-of-the-art aluminum oxide technology. It consists of an O-ring sealed stainless steel threaded housing and a field-replaceable active sensing element. The sensing element is fabricated out of a porous, thin film dielectric aluminum oxide body sandwiched between two electrodes coated with a proprietary alloy. The sensing element behaves as an electrical capacitor, with capacitance being a function of moisture.
Proven through years of use in a demanding military application, this advanced sensor is now available for industrial and commercial use.
ALL ALUMINUM OXIDE SENSORS ARE SIMILAR AND THE DIFFERENCES TEND TO BE DETAILS, BUT DETAILS CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. FOR EXAMPLE:
Low Operating Costs The sensor utilizes a “throw-away” active sensing element that is easily replaced in the field. No recalibration is required. This minimizes your costs, because other sensors require complete sensor assembly replacement and recalibration.
Sensor Reliability The sensor has a proprietary coating that can be touched and is cylindrical in shape for superior ruggedness.
Calibration The sensors are calibrated in the factory and storage of sensor calibration data is accomplished with a plug-in EPROM. Manual calibration adjustments are never required as is the case with other sensors.
Contamination Resistance The active sensing element has a large surface area which is much more resistant to spot contamination effects than gold foil and other similar sensors.
Fast Response The sensing element is designed to optimize the response to step changes in moisture in both wet up and dry down cycles.
In addition to the above, the ADC Aluminum Oxide Sensor is versatile and will operate in both gases and liquids. Its unique thermal stability provides virtually drift-free performance, and a single sensor will operate over a dew point range of –80°C to +0°C (see below). It is so rugged that the active sensing element can be handled as often as is necessary and flushed with water to clean it without adversely affecting its performance.
